Trending: Lymphatic Drainage Massage

words Josie Broad

Lymphatic drainage is a therapeutic technique designed to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which can be particularly beneficial if you're dealing with swelling, inflammation, fluid retention or feeling sluggish.

The gentle massage is typically completed by a professional and comes with a price tag of around $150-250. Whilst recommended to get this treatment often, you can complete this daily yourself from home without spending up large and we have all the hacks for you.

With benefits such as reducing inflammation, water retention, brain fog, relieving stress, boosting the immune system, promotes detoxification, improves skin appearance and MORE. The list literally goes on, so where do we start?

Before starting, it's important to note that self-lymphatic drainage should be performed with care, using light pressure and gentle movements.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

Prepare Your Body:

  • Find a comfortable, quiet space where you can relax.
  • Take a few deep breaths to calm your mind and body.
  • You can sit or lie down, whichever is more comfortable for you.
  • Get yourself some lotion or oil to help your hands slowly glide over your skin. Our favourite is Bangn Body’s firming lotion, it’s extremely hydrating and has so many benefits to it such as reducing KP, cellulite, acne and more. Two birds, one stone!

Drain the Abdomen:

  • Place your hands on your abdomen, just above the navel.
  • Using gentle pressure, move your hands in a circular motion, working your way around your abdomen. Complete clockwise 10 times, then anticlockwise 10 times.
  • This step helps promote lymphatic flow from the lower body.
  • Move to the right side of your body and in a swiping motion, move your hands in a wrapping motion, think of sculpting and following your waist line. Complete 10 times.
  • Now move to the left side and repeat. Complete 10 times.
  • Move your hands to the top of your stomach and gently push your stomach downwards, like your moving the toxins toward your pubic bone. Complete 10 times.

Finish with the Legs:

  • Starting at the ankles, use gentle strokes to move upwards towards the knees and then to the thighs.
  • Repeat this 10 times on each leg.

Hydrate and Rest:

  • After completing your lymphatic drainage, drink plenty of water to help flush out the toxins.
  • Allow yourself some time to rest and let your body continue the detoxification process.
  • Fuel your body with fresh produce and avoid vigorous workouts that will cause inflammation for 12 hours. We like to do this before bed.

It’s important to be using hydrating creams, lotions or oils for this so that you remain gentle on the skin and work on delivering your body a healthy glow. Bangn Body ticks creams, lotions and oils all in one, with ingredients such as, olive fruit oil which promotes collagen production, pineapple fruit extract to repair, firm and tone the skin, green coffee bean extract which reduces the appearance of cellulite, increases blood flow and circulation, finger lime extract for an instant hydration boost, reducing ageing, wrinkles, psoriasis and even skin pigmentation. We can’t get enough of this brand and all of its nourishing qualities. Delivering all we need and more in one tube.
